As mentioned, most of my art is made while on-the-run. In Paris, I ran around with a heavy bag full of markers. Ridiculous!
At home, my supplies changed a wee bit. The first change was the size of my colors. Here is a quickie on how I made my current favorite watercolor paint set (otherwise known as palette). It is so small, it fits easily into my jeans or shirt pockets. It weighs almost nothing at all. The colors are juicy. If the case breaks, clear tape works fine to hold it together until I find another nicely sized eye shadow color set.

Step 1: Find a nice eyeshadow set. This is super when you want to recycle...let me have your old sets, please!!!!
Step 2: Soak in water, overnight.
Step 3: Dig out eyeshadow with any handle tool such as a paper clip, fork, etc. May need to repeat step 2.
Step 4: When all spaces are clean, pour from the tube of watercolor into the place wanted for that color. Do under fill.
Step 5: Allow to completely dry.
Step 6: Enjoy while on the run!!!!!

Cathy Johnson also mentions why manufacturing companies of watercolor tube paints dislike artists making these palettes. I agree with Cathy - the paint works wonderfully when re-wet. The re-wet paint works better than the stay- dry-until-use paint, to me!

The well loved travel paints on the right with a recently filled sketchbook.
2021 update:
I still love using this travel paint set. I still love this size sketchbook. The major change is that I use a Pilot Decimo fountain pen instead of the fine line pen and pencil shown in this last photo. I’ve lost track how many times I’ve refilled the set. It now has clear tape on the lid to help hold the crack from spreading. Overall, yep, still works for me!

From today's news on National Public Radio's website:
"...The task [of plugging the oil leak] became increasingly urgent as toxic oil crept deeper into the bays and marshes of the Mississippi Delta.
A sheen of oil began arriving on land last week, and crews have been laying booms, spraying chemical dispersants and setting fire to the slick to try to keep it from coming ashore. But now the thicker, stickier goo — arrayed in vivid, brick-colored ribbons — is drawing ever closer to Louisiana's coastal communities.
The Coast Guard and BP said Saturday about 2.1 million gallons of an oil-water mix had been collected, with about 10 percent being oil and the rest water. More than 160 miles of boom to contain the oil has been put out and crews have used nearly 275,000 gallons of chemicals to break up the oil on the water's surface."
Andy and I enjoyed the beach yesterday. The whole day was beautiful and sad because I kept thinking about how this summer and the years to come are ruined for so many. Pray. Praying hard while the photos from the entire ordeal have me riveted.

Update for 2021:
It was 10 years ago that the oil spill happened...and I still think of 2011 with a lot of joy and stress, lol. That was a year of exploring the art medium of encaustics, which I stopped using after moving homes and getting married to Andy. When I picked up encaustics again in September, 2012, I found I lost my “touch” with it. The last encaustic painting I did is now hanging in Isabel’s home. My encaustic supplies are mostly sold away. I’m super happy using acrylic paints, but using encaustics was a really good experience.

When I buy a bag, there are a few musts. The bag has to fit my 8x5 inch sketchbook, my pens and watercolor kit, my iPhone, wallet, tissues, now hand sanitizer....bonus if a bottle of water fits, too.
I prefer bags with adjustable straps, so I can wear cross body or at my side. I also love bags that are washable...because I use my bags, not just as arm candy. Arm candy purses work for me or I leave them in the store!
I’m not someone who really likes shopping...so when I spotted this bag at Don Emilió´Coffee Farm in Uvita, Costa Rica, I bought it. The tag says UpTica.
This bag fits all I want plus whatever Andy hands over to me, usually sunglasses in case and car key. It still closes with all this stuff!
Look closely at the zippers of this bag. The back of this purse is that color, ugly beige. I detest beige...unless it’s beach sand. I’ve always wanted to paint a purse so I went for it. Here’s how the front looks now!
It’s not perfect, but it’s a great improvement. I’d add sequins but right now don’t have any. I’d add rhinestones, but the purse liner makes that difficult. So I’ll buy some sequins online and glue them later. I’m also going to add more contrast to the turtle shells, but for now...
I’ll be using it around Costa Rica! I’ll take some fotos and show you later.

During this entire time of heebie-jeebies, aka COVID-19 pandemic, many many many people have been working from home.
A lot of people have a tough time turning off their “Job Self.”
Some people also have be teachers to their children. Their kids have a difficult time figuring out when their mom or dad is on the job and when not on the job.
How about a little fun and easy to see visual reminder to anyone who finds it too different to work from home? An easy to understand way to let yourself and those you love when you’re on the job and when you can have fun?
Each sign is custom painted with love for the person who works from home. Every sign is based on the colors, favorite ocean life, and a photo of their work space.
Having one of these signs gives you the advantage of a quick glance to let everyone know if you’re working or available…no matter if your kids can read or not. You benefit, because it might save you time and interruptions, lol, even if you’re in the kitchen (like me!).

Before enjoying the paintings in this article, Kitchen Inspiration from Art History, I was aware how kitchens have evolved over time. Kitchens moved from outdoors to indoors, then from the edges of the house to the middle of the house. To really see how kitchens have changed, the link has some awesome paintings.
In our home, Andy is Chef. He's the one that makes scrumptious meals. I clean the kitchen. It works very well for us as I barely read recipes and he makes one-offs.

I can remember only a single man wanting the kitchen made over and that's because he was a stay-at-home with two small children. Why not the men? Aren't kitchens essential? Also, then why are top chefs mostly men if the home kitchen doesn't seem to matter to most men?

Polchoir is French for "stencil." I just learned this while researching public domain Art Deco and Art Nouveau stencil designs!
Why public domain?
The good about buying stencils (or stamps):
When you purchase a stencil, you are supporting the artists and manufacturers that designed that stencil. Everyone wins.
The bad about using bought stencils (or stamps):
You are placing limitations on how many times you may use that stencil in designs for sale. I read the fine print on most things... I don't recall if it was a rubber stamp or a stencil but the item said "up to 10." If you're into scrapbooking and giving away your handmade cards, etc., you have no limits on how you use your purchased stencil (or stamp).
As much as possible, I seek to make my own. It's therapeutic making the cuts as well as freeing, lol. Cutting vinyl is sometimes better than drawing or sketching.
The photo shows one of my latest stencils, hand cut 10ml vinyl using an exacto knife and scissors. I used a slightly crumpled paper sheet to test it, with some "leftover" paint and a make up sponge. When I find a design I like, I manipulate it on my iPad, print, and then cut.

I have many reasons why I'm grateful to be part of Generation X, one of them being posters.
I had access to posters for my bedroom, pre-printed, ready to roll up and stick on my doors or walls. Between the department stores and the mall kitzy stores, posters were everywhere. There were posters from magazines, from records (oh those 33s!), really big posters from the stores.
Current generations of kids have to print or make their posters.
Hmm...it would be cool if you bought original paintings for the next generations to put up in their rooms. LOL Almost joke - but there seems to be more access to original artwork than pin ups now.

2020 is about IMPROVING my art tools as well as using what I already have.
The top tool is a color wheel from Bob Burridge that I purchased in early 2016. I really love it. It helps me figure out focus points and color combinations.
The big color chart is totally new for me. I wonder how I figured things out before I bought it! It's helping me figure out how to QUICKLY mix a color, add it to my painting, and MOVE ON! Oh YEAH! I've so many paintings in Stuck Mode that are coming to life with this new tool!
See the top two flowery paintings? I'm using both color tools to figure those out. Both paintings have been hanging out on my truly messy studio table, tossed from one side to the other, until now. So far, so fun!
I'm keeping both color tools on my easel itself, using velcro tape. Before the velcro tape, I kept losing the wheel, lol!
