We decided we wanted a more permanent and personal solution to our home party signs like Bathroom, Trash, etc. We upgraded our signs from cardboard to painted wood panel signs.
Simon, our finicky cat, was happy to be my Goofy Cat model for our signs.

There are two pet holidays this week!
This Thursday, August 8th, is International Cat Day. I wonder what Heathclif and Garfield are doing all day?
This Saturday, August 10th, is Spoil Your Dog Day. It is also happens to be National Be Lazy Day...maybe take lots of naps with your dog?
I'll be adding some paint to big pup Carly while cat Simon sips from his very own studio water dish. If I'm lazy at all, it will on purpose, swinging from our hammock while enjoying time with my guy Andy.
Whatever you do, are you going to give a scratch behind the ears to your best furry friend?

DOGust Universal Birthday for Shelter Dogs is today, August 2st!
Happy Birthday to all of the dogs whose real birthdays are totally unknown!
When you search for DOGust Birthday, you find North Shore Animal League America began this holiday for all dogs that don't have a birthday. Really, they have a birthday, just that the shelter doesn't know to the day..
For the longest time, I didn't know that our cat Simon's birthday was in March. If I didn't know Simon's birthday month, I'd definitely appreciate that DOGust now also extends to cats, lol.

The last few months, I've been working on a dream project. I've based a lot from our wedding, Andy & mine. We had six months to plan our wedding...and as I looked around the wedding market place, I couldn't find what I really wanted for us. With six months and no painting studio, it was even more difficult to imagine anything unique for us, made by us. We managed a few unique touches, like our invitations and our table names with photos we printed. Other than that, we had a very lovely and traditional wedding, lol.
I'm proposing a little idea of Your Story, Your Wedding, Your Memories. Featured here is an original painting I made for the center of canvas for our guests to sign like a book.

The last few years, I've made an effort to go see other people's artwork. It helps me gather different ideas, see from new places. I love seeing how materials come together to make artwork. It's just a healthy mental thing for me to do.
Andy knows that my going to galleries and museums makes me spark…like motorcycles make him spark. Sometimes, Andy will go with me, but then we keep it to one gallery or a museum section. He knows what he likes and will give a chance to art he doesn't like and then we do talk about it.

I just did a quick Google search to look up publishers like F+W Media. I gave up - too many for me to research.
Why do you want to know that F+W Media filed bankruptcy?

I'm not surprised by the fact of the bankruptcy - except by the length of time they have managed to last....
It pains me to say this but I saw this coming a very long time ago when I realised that the owners failed to grasp the reality of the move of commerce to online and what the requirements are of a new type of business model. They seemed to have a vision of ecommerce which was was corporate and conglomerate and failed to realise how nimbler smaller operations would move faster to satisfy demand from its consumers.
To my mind, it was a lumbering giant in an ecommerce world full of micro-entrepreneurs.
My perspective is from someone who loves holding a real published book in my hands. I love to browse hardcopy books. My studio hardcopy library is full of books published by F+W Media. I love going to my shelves and browsing these books.
I also have little patience when I want to learn something. I have a love-hate relationship with the internet. I completely agree with Making a Mark that F+W Media is being mismanaged...but giants are wonderful because they can be easily found and "reduced" to what you want. All those micro-entrepreneurs, I recognize that I am one, too. We get lost in masses, us micro-entrepreneurs. It's just not that easy to get content when you want it from a huge crowd of stuff - and decide if that content is even usable!
I'll be watching what happens with F+W Media, closely.

- one of the largest that focuses on Making Things
- what will become a major source for Making Things?
- how much more difficult it will become to learn and/or discover things to Make Things?
- what will happen to all their content, including WetCanvas.com?

A laser device selling for about $80,000 US will safely erase pen and spray paint from Italian monuments. It takes one person about 20 minutes to erase an area of 10 square centimeters, about 1.55 square inches.
Seems the pen is used across the world, especially at UNESCO world heritage sites.
I have to wonder, though. The monuments made of stone...would soap and water be easier and still safe to use? If it's made of stone, would a pressure washer occasionally used be ok?
I do believe that it is important to save artworks and monuments from graffiti and vandalism, but is this the best way to save artworks and monuments from graffiti?

Blanco y Blanco's Jeanne made up a painting station for those kids and big kids that wanted to use stencils to paint their own cats.
I decided to take a few clip boards and pencils and ask the adults (big shy kids who would never try to paint) if they wanted to try sketching a cat.
I am proud to display two courageous as well as stupendous sketches of cats!!!! They each did a super work of getting the movement down of the cat or kitten they were watching. After all, that's what's fun about drawing - getting the idea on paper!
Applaud them along with me! I don't have their names and one left their sketches (which are going into my sketchbook, ja ja ja, as a fun memory of this day).
